Hi folks. Today I went through the sheer endless dephs of my HD and tried to organize the chaos a little bit, especially in the sections for the years 2008 and earlier and by doing so I found lots of albums I forgot to listen to and three of them I will introduce to you (but maybe you know them already). Let’s begin.

Will Cookson, Will Cookson…hmm…to be honest, I have never heard of him. He hails from Edinburgh/Great Britain and Songs For A Sunday (released back in 2008) is a very nice litte acoustic folk album with some indie flavor. Fingerpicking style all over the place with some nice melodies and relaxed vocals. The vocals and the melodies seem to form a contrast because the guitar strings are often played fast and the vocals are sung more slowly. Here and there you can hear some piano, some harmonica and some percussions – but still the acoustic guitar is the center of the music. Great album and very interesting singer-songwriter. If you don’t know him, don’t miss the chance to become acquainted. (MySpace)

Samuel Stiles – A Love Tragedy
self-released 2007

We jump from Great Britain to the US, more precise to New Orleans/Louisiana and meet up with Samuel Stiles and his 2007 released album A Love Tragedy. And man and what the heck is this a great album full of somber emotions and deep feelings. Samuel’s voice got a decent reverb and the music seems to float all around his singing. Guitar, some strings (maybe electronic in nature?), some percussions and bass create an intimate atmosphere that keeps me prisoner at first listen. (Maybe one thing could have been done a bit better: the volume levels. It seems that tracks like A Minor Place are a bit too loud – but let’s not be to fussy here.) Add to all this a little lo-fi feeling and you get a very good album you should spend an ear on, even though it was released way back in 2007. Still awesome! (MySpace)

Wixel – Somewhere Between The Sun And The Moon
self-released 2008

Another candidate I never heard of (at least I don’t remember), but checking through the Slowcoustic posts, it seems that fellow blogger Smansmith was the one who discovered Wixel (hailing from Schaerbeek/Belgium) some time ago (check this post). And this was another great discovery in the history of Slowcoustic’s great discoveries as I see now. The music of Wixel can be called ambient with some folk moments combined with electronic synth sounds and a hint of slowcore. Very chilled instrumental vibes, mostly very dreamy and simply great to listen to even though I don’t like some percussions for they are a bit to flashy at some points – but this is only a minor cause for alarm. At the end: a very pleasant record for some nightly hours. Be sure to check out some of Wixel’s other music for he released tons of it since the album came out. (MySpace)
Dear Sir/Madam
I happened upon this site via the Hype Machine contraption, and how glad I am to have done so.
I always delight in discovering pertinent ditties, and what a hoard you unveiled this day, with Wixel being especially wonderful.
Let it be known that your efforts were not in vain, and that this introduction was most welcome this wearisome January eve.
I shall return.
More felicity anon,
Dr. Y.U. Thropplenoggin
Yeah. What he said..
