There is a nice little EP out there in the nets that you might have missed. I’m talking abot The Growing Up EP by Sean Kangataran from Galway, Ireland. The tracks on it were recorded in 2007 and never officially released. So this post does not provide breaking news but hopefuly some music you gonna like.
Sean Kangataran tagged himself as indie but I would call the music acoustic folk pop. He plays guitar (both acoustic and electric), piano and the percussions. Glen Forde play bass on all the tracks. The four songs on the EP differ in mood and atmosphere but all have some kind of airness in common what’s the reason the record is somewhat breezy.
Sean’s voice could be described as a robust but not heavy one with an addiction to shallowly sung vocals. This description sounds kind of weird…but ok. His singing is consistent over the time and dosn’t have many affective emotions. This gives calmness to the tracks even when they deal with personal topics. The best moments are those when you got him singing, the piano plays a nice little melody and the backing vocals are coming in (talking about the end of Sometimes I Feel Like The Punshline In Your Joke).
The more I listen to the EP the more I like it I have to admit (seems that it’s growi…ok, ok, I don’t write that, hahaha). It is something you can put in your player when you aren’t in the mood for depressing or sad music – but don’t get this wrong, Kangataran’s songs are not happy or fluffy they are just not opressive.
Sean told me that he’s currently working on new songs for an upcoming album but he could not tell a definite date. Also he’s searching for some bands that want to play some shows together with him. So if you are interested get in touch! And if you want to buy your copy of The Growing Up EP visit Kangataran’s MySpace site for ordering information.

Is this album available for download? Also what about the songs on his myspace page? I am smitten with his music. “It’s Noth The Hurt That Hurts” is amazing…..
Thanks-

Hi there! Sorry for the delayed answer…
I don’t think you can buy the mp3s seperately, but if you’d buy a copy of The Growing Up EP here (http://seankangataran.bigcartel.com/), you may mail Sean and he sends you the mp3s of it as well. To his MySpace only tracks: I don’t think you can download them, but maybe if you ask him, he sends you copies…but I can’t guarantee for that.
In any case: if you like his msuic, you should tell him; that could boost him to finish and release his upcoming album sooner
Have a nice day

Well I am quite sure that it would not be new for you but your blog s fantastic! I am sure that many guys would have told you before but I thought to let you know myself and boost your confidence.
Thanks for the nice words. It makes me all happy everytime I read, that my blog can give something back to my readers. I’m glad that there are so much nice musicans and people out there who read and know CFM – and most important, that I hopefully bring them together. That’s nothing less than a big dream coming true for me.
