Browsing the internet for new music to write about I stumbled on Johnny Wrong at Last.fm. I looked at the tags and the cover artwork for his album called Dirt Tracks and I got a feeling that this could be good.
In his bio you can read:
Johnny Wrong is just a kid who likes to rub is nose in old records from that great, great country in the west and in old dusty books from all over the world and in beer and in whiskey and in one of his two guitars – so thats what he is doing, writing and recording songs with a 10 Dollar voicerecorder in his little room neath the roof somewhere in england. And he is happy with that, as he says: „What more would you need?“
And he does not lie because his sound is raw and his voice is strong but dusty. You can feel the whiskey in every word and I’m asking me right now if the guy on the cover artwork could be Johnny Wrong himself. Man this voice sounds much older in those sad songs. You can clearly hear a good portion Johnny Cash in it. Sadly there is no more information about him to find and so I don’t know if the songs on Dirt Tracks are all originals. But this makes no big difference because they are all just great and pleasing.
If you know more about this artist, please let me know. In response to a question in his shoutbox from another user he was not willing to disclose any secrets. Check out his Last.fm site and grab the mp3s for free.
