Waiting For The Sun from Vermont based singer-songwriter Mike Minchin is not quiet the newest release. But you know that this says nothing about the album itself and I’m quite sure not all of you have heard of it. So this is the opportunity to get some really delicious material into your ears. And I’m sure you’ll like it.
Minchin plays straight acoustic folk telling stories about life and love. His melodies are really great and so is his voice. It’s clear but you can be sure that this man has seen some bars in his life and made some lasting experiences. His voice has something to tell – and I’m not talking about the lyrics here.
As you listen to the music there’s no doubt it is really good. But Mike Minchin enriches it with a dash of country and a dash of blues sometimes and this combination is the recipe for a grown up sounding record – there are no experiments, there are no compromises and there is nothing but 36 minutes of pure and honest folk. If this is not what you are looking for I really don’t know what else you possibly could be looking for at all.

Every time I listen to this CD it is growing up on me and I maybe would put it to my 2009 favourites if it had not been released back in 2005. And this fact brings me to some concerns I had. You really can’t find much information about Mike Minchin on the internet and so I did not know if he is still playing and so on. Lucky me, he put his e-mail address on the back of his album cover so it was possible to contact him. And belief it or not, it still works!
Mike told me that he’s writing songs and playing music as ever and that he’s on the verge of recording his second album. It’s a pity that he could not tell when it will be finished. But I think it is really comforting to know that he’s still active and writes some new songs I’m sure they will be as great as those on Waiting For The Sun.
If you like the music, you can get a copy of his album at cdbaby.com. And if you want to contact him, just tell me and I give you his e-mail address. I just don’t want it to be posted here because of evil bots stealing all the time.
